Jumby Bay Island is a paradise for all ages, embracing fun and adventure even in its very name the Antiguan word jumbee means "playful spirit."- Jumby Bay Resort
Set in a stunning, tranquil location, With its long white beaches,
manicured garden paths and translucent turquoise sea, Jumby Bay, a
Rosewood Resort, is set on a pristine private island only accessible
by a five minute boat ride off the coast of Antigua. It is a lavish
300 acre tropical paradise home to estate homes, villas, and lavish
suites.
The estate homes accommodations are owned by an association of
homeowners and is a member of the revered Oetker Collection that
includes such icons as Le Bristol in Paris and Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc
on the French Riviera. The estate homes are strung along the coast
like precious pearls and are truly a paradise of understated, idyllic
luxury living. The interiors are each unique and different but always
elegantly appointed. These can be booked upon availability by Skyline
Destinations. By request they can be staffed for your stay.
Skyline Destinations accommodations of choice are the villas,
particularly lovely is Harbor View Villa number 203. Large families or
groups of friends traveling together should consider booking one of
the villas, all with pools and some with small beaches. Each Harbor
View Villa, situated on the south coast, has a magnificent two-tiered
living area that opens seamlessly onto a pool deck, making the
Caribbean colors and fragrances as much a part of the interior as the
modern art on the walls. The Pond Bay villas are tucked away in the
northwest part of the island, close to unspoiled Pasture Beach.
Housed in clusters of whitewashed bungalows, the spacious suites have
an open floor plan with large living areas, colonial four-poster beds,
teak furnishings and antique prints and original artwork that add
splashes of color to the otherwise elegantly subdued palette of
chocolate and beige. Most suites also have an outdoor bathing area
with a soaking tub and a rainfall shower in small, sun-dappled
courtyard.
With not a car in sight, bicycles are available and neatly parked
outside the villas, so you can meander along the lush cycle paths and
manicured lawns, which link the accommodations, beaches and
restaurants.
In terms of activities, days at Jumby center on relaxing in the sun
with the occasional dip in the warm sea, though water activities like
snorkeling, sailing, windsurfing and water skiing, are also available
and complimentary. Along with palms, the beach is sprinkled with
loungers, thatch umbrellas and white day beds. Jumby is inclusive, so
there’s nothing to sign when you accept the bottled water, fresh
juices, tropical sorbets, or your favorite bottle of champagne on ice
that are brought to your beach pad throughout the day.
If you’re here between June and November, don’t miss a nighttime
excursion to see the hawksbill turtles at Pasture Beach. The resort’s
renowned turtle program is truly an experience. After sunset, guests
are treated to a guided evening stroll on Pasture Beach for sightings
of these critically endangered animals.
Antigua is one of my very favorite islands. The beaches are pristine and the water translucent ombre shades of blue green. Jumby Bay is a heavenly jewel just slightly removed from the mainland and a harbor of luxury.
